Each portrait is drawn entirely by hand, using a mix of artist-grade charcoal on premium heavyweight paper.

A5 (5.8 x 8.3”)

These come in a classic white mount and protective sleeve. Ready to fit an 8x10” frame.
A4 (8.3 x 11.7”)
£150 + £15 P&P*
This is a great size for capturing a bit more detail and is perfect for a single subject portrait.
These come in a classic white mount and protective sleeve. Ready to fit a 12x16” frame.
A3 (11.7 x 16.5”)
£200 + £15 P&P*
By far my favourite scale to work at, offering different poses from head and shoulders to full body or even two subjects.

*UK delivery is a flat rate of £15. International delivery is quoted on an individual basis.
STEP 2: REFERENCE PHOTO
Good Photo
Sharp, eye level, high quality, well lit.
Bad Photo
Blurry, distorted, low quality, poorly lit.
A good photo reference is key to a successful charcoal drawing.
Photography Tips:
High Quality - Ideally use a dedicated DSLR / Mirrorless camera with a 50mm lens or longer focal length. Or a high quality smartphones telephoto lens or main camera zoomed 2x (to avoid distortion), without filters applied.
Good Lighting - Natural daylight is best, near a large window or at the edge of a shaded area. Avoid direct sunlight and artificial lighting. Move the subject around to light them in different ways, such as from the front or side.
Clear Features - Take the photo from their eye level so important features like the eyes, nose, mouth and ears can be clearly seen and look natural. Photo’s taken from above will foreshorten the body and enlarge the head creating unflattering distortion.
Pose - A three-quarter pose generally works well. But play about with poses, have them looking in different directions to see which way really suits how you see them. Moving their favourite toy around the camera will help give them something to focus on.

STEP 3: DEPOSIT
Once we’ve agreed on the size, reference and deadline, I’ll take a 20% deposit via BACS to secure the booking and get started.
STEP 4: CREATING YOUR DRAWING
I usually start working as soon as I can after the deposit is received and will contact you with a photo of the completed drawing for your approval.
The remaining balance plus delivery (if required) is only due once you are happy with it.
STEP 2: DELIVERY & REVIEW
Once I’ve received the full balance I’ll get the piece ready to deliver by spray fixing, photographing, mounting and wrapping it before packing, ready for shipping.

TERMS & CONDITIONS

By commissioning an artwork you will be agreeing to these terms and conditions.
Pricing
All prices are based on a single head and shoulders style portrait and exclude delivery. Additional subjects or added complexity will be quoted on an individual basis.
Photographs
The reference photographs you supply must be your own.
If the photo’s were not taken by you, please let me have the photographers contact information so I may obtain permission from them directly.
The photo’s can not be from a professional photographer unless you have their written permission to use their photographs as reference.
Deposit
A non-refundable deposit of 20% is required upon booking your commission to cover material costs and reserve your place.
In the event the artist is unable to complete the work due to an unavoidable change in their circumstances the deposit will be refunded.
Balance
The remainder of the balance is due only when you are satisfied with the completed artwork.
Clients are to pay the final balance within one week of the notification of completion.
The artwork will be dispatched or made available for collection upon receipt of the full balance.
Delivery
P&P within the UK is as follows:
£15 for postage and packing of A5, A4 & A3 drawings, sent via Royal Mail Tracked 24 in a cardboard box.
Highlands, Islands and overseas addresses will be quoted on an individual basis.
The client is responsible for any import duty or taxes to be paid.
£5 for packing only when collecting from my address in Churchdown, Gloucestershire.
Cancellation
In the unlikely event the piece is no longer wanted or required the artist reserves the right to retain the deposit.
If the client is not satisfied with the completed commission, they will not be asked for the remainder of the balance, however the artist will retain the deposit, artwork and the rights to use or sell the artwork.
Copyright
The copyright of the finished artwork remains with the artist.
The finished artwork may be used by the client for display and personal enjoyment only.
No prints or copies shall be made, or profit gained in any way from the finished artwork by the client without the express written permission of the artist.
Sharing is permitted on social media so long as credit is attributed to the artist.
The artist retains the right to use images of the artwork for reproduction and advertising purposes.
